Decorating help!!! I have cherry cabinets in my kitchen, with cherry wood floors, the kitchen flows into the?
the living room which has white carpet. I’m trying to decide on the color to paint my walls. They must flow together well with the living room and kitchen. I decorate now with sages, tans, and burgundys. I seem to like the french, old world, italian, roman, decor peices. What color should I paint the walls? and What colors should I do the windows in the living room?
Your help is greatly appreciated
Here are links to the living room and kitchen, the floor has been replaced in the kitchen like I mentioned it has cherry wood floors now and the sitting chair in the living room is now a dark brown leather recliner.

OSB Sub-floor over cement leveling compound?
I am installing a new bamboo floor in my brick & beam loft. I am considering placing down a new OSB sub-floor to nail / staple the bamboo into. The structural deck is: heavy timber, with heavy duty plank, then there is 1"-2" thick cement based leveling compound.
I want to install a new OSB sub-floor over the existing cement leveling compound. I don’t think this will be a problem since I am up on the 4th floor, and the cement has been in place for 10+ years so it should be moisture free. I am thinking 3/4" th. OSB, glued to cement. (possibly screwed also, if cement doesn’t crumble)
Concerns, comments, and advice appreciated.

cut out a couple hardwood boards?
I installed a hardwood floor this weekend but want to cut out a few boards that I didn’t install correctly. They’re on the last row and the gap is too wide. It got late (~2am) and I started to make mistakes.
Anyway, I have 3 boards that I want to cut in half, remove the bad half and install a new board properly. I think I want to use something like a Dremel or Rotozip to rip the board so I can remove the bad half.
What’s the best tool to cut a hardwood plank? Dremel? Rotozip? I also see that Sears has a 5 amp cutting tool.
thanks,
gary
It is 3/4 inch unfinished red oak. I have 3 dormers and these are under the odd shaped wall between the dormers. The flooring nailer wouldn’t work there so I used a finish nailer with 2" nails. I couldn’t get the right angle so some of the 2" finish nail went down through the bottom of the tongue. I didn’t discover that until the third board (it was late and I was making mistakes).
These are long planks and part of the board is over the dormer area. I want to leave that along and cut off the part what has the gap.
I won’t be able to get a circular saw close enough because of the wall. I need to find a router or some small circular saw to cut the boards so I can fix the gaps. I was hoping a dremel or a rotozip would have the power to cut 3/4 inch but it look like I’ll have to look for something else.

Has anyone installed a vinyl floor?
What brand floor did you go with? Are you satisfied with your floor?
Most importantly for me is, how does your floor withstand spills, frequent mopping, & pet accidents?
I want to install a floating vinyl-plank floor which has a natural wood look and feel, yet can withstand the abuse only a young puppy can provide.

Has anyone ever installed ceiling panels or planks on their ceiling???
I want to do this to encapsulate my painted popcorn texture ceiling (YUK!), which due to the age of my home (1928) more than likely has asbestos. I don’t want to drop down or suspend the ceiling too much as I don’t want to lose much height. Has anyone done this? I love the look of white tiles that look like pressed tin or white laminate which looks like hardwood planks, or beadboard – they would all go well in my bungalow. Do I need to attach furring strips to the ceiling first? It seems like the joists would be hard to find with a stud finder due to the popcorn. I’m extremely handy and know I could do this myself if I get a few questions answered first.
Please don’t give me details on how to remove the popcorn – I know how. Even if I was to have it tested for asbestos and it was negative, it would be very difficult to remove because it’s painted and I can already tell the ceiling underneath has some areas where the tape & bed is coming up on the seams – a lot of costly prep work. And the worst that could happen, it the asbestos report came back positive, when I sell my house in a few years, I would have to disclose that! I’d rather let it remain unknown and just cover it with a better looking material and increase the value of my home.

Teenagers – what shall I do with my bedroom? (PICTURES INCLUDED)?
Should I paint my bed to create the white distressed wood ’shabby chic’ look??
I suppose I have quite a modern style bedroom with a smooth fitted wooden floor and slanted windows (this room was built about 10 years ago). It has pale purple walls. I am bored of my bed, which I’ve had since I was 5 (I am now 18!) There is no point in me getting a new bed as I am going to uni in just over a year. Would a shabby chic bed look good?
(I mean this kind of style):

Here is the album of my bed and room (please click on all the pictures to see the wood properly):

Would it work on the type of wood that my bed is made from? Would it suit the rest of the room from what you can see?

I know my bed isn’t very nice – that’s WHY I want to change it! But I can’t get a new one as I can’t afford it and I’m moving out in a year anyway, no point…

When should a wooden (cedar) ceiling be stained, before or after installation?
I know this is going to sound stupid, but we are installing a tongue & groove cedar planks ceiling on an exterior porch and my husband says we stain each plank first, then we install them in the ceiling. Naturally, we disagree: I say install, then stain. What is the best way to go?
